Although there are many great computers and electronic equipment out there Apple’s range of computers and software make all their competitors products seem substandard. This also evident in the prices of their products, but it is worth the investment as these products last a lot longer than most computer systems.

When Apple came out with their first MacBook it was one of the most sought after compact IT systems in the world, but Apple did not stop at this they decided to better it in many different staged and have finally come up with a product that trumps all of their previous versions of the MacBook. To compare products the entry level 13 inch screen was tested to see how its dual i5 processor faired against other products similar to this one. Although the design of the MacBook has not changed that much there are subtle differences between the 13-inch and the new 15-inch MacBook Pro. The 15-inch Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display although still retaining its sleek look is slightly bigger than that of the thirteen inch MacBook. All the styling of the MacBook remains the same including, including the glass track pad and island style keyboard. The 15-inch Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display weighs slightly more than the 13 inch although do not less this fool you it still retains it lightweight existence and remains easy to carry around.

Much like the 13 inch MacBook the Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display has all the same ports in the same places the only difference is that instead of the version two USB ports it has two version three USB ports. It also sports the Retina pro as well as MacBook airs new Magsafe two connectors. The last Gen-Version is on the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBooks. The keyboard and touchpad are the same as the 13-inch MacBook. These two are the most durable pieces of hardware that have been created by Apple that make the MAcBooks stand out from other portable computers. It has chic let style keys that make typing easy and pleasurable and the touchpad which is made of glass is one of the most durable and faultless keypads out there, it makes navigating smooth and effortless. Sound quality is very much the same as the previous version and still remains clear and is good enough to watch movies and to listen to music, but it is recommended that you purchase desktop speakers for clearer more full sound. Although the screen is also still one of the best and also delivers crystal images enabling you to watch movies, there is room for improvement on the resolution of the images.

The Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display showed that it is worth its price and scored 368 more than the older MacBook models. The Apple MacBook Pro Retina however does lack in some performance areas, this was evident when windows was installed with Boot camp, Boot camp puts the system through its paces and while it still held up quite well, there were other laptop models that bettered its score such as Acer aspire Timeline M3 with discrete graphics and Intel 7 processor. Other models in the same market as the Apple MacBook Retina scored very much the same if not higher at times than the Apple MacBook pro with Retina display.

For all the avid gamers out there the Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display is ok to play your favourites on but does lack somewhat due to the lack of the discreet graphics of that some of the competition. Games like world of war craft and Batman: Arkham asylum fair quite well on the Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display, but if you are going to buy the Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display for gaming purpose only you should not be spending the money on it then as it is not made for extreme gaming. It’s a toy that is much too expensive for gaming purposes. The day to day usage of the Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display is what gives it its worth in price. During testing the Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display was put through its paces as it was working on three different browsers, a chat client, gaming and some Text Edit typing. Although the Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display was running all of the above programs it did not display any form of lethargy and no glitches were reported. The Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display is available in a number of different configurations at different prices and is also available in the 13-inch screen as well as a 15-inch screen. The 15-inch screen is 1,680 by 1,050 and the 15-inch version also offers its users a quad core which is not available in the 13 inch version. Below is a quick over view of the different configurations that you can get in the Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display;

[table id=2 /]

Both these configurations are available in the 15 inch screens as well; the only difference is obviously the screen and the price. Other laptops in the Apple range such as the MacBook air are priced similarly to that of the pro, but offer a faster CPU and this is due to SSD which allows for more direct storage. The pro offers more storage, but this also means that the pro is the heavier option. Other laptops in the same range of competition as the Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display are the HP envy which is priced a little higher in the 13 inch screen only offers Core i5 bridge CPU, Intel Graphics 4000, 128GB SSD and a 1,600 by 900 display. It also comes in the 15 inch which is similar to the 14 inch, but has a few features that are better such as the 6GB readily available memory, 750 GB hard drive and AMD Radeon Graphics.

Discrete Graphics is a very high quality graphic phenomenon and if you are stuck in one price range then you can get a laptop with discrete graphics that is priced similarly to that of the MacBook Pro. The Dell XPS 14z comes with NVIDIA’s GeForce GT520M which works hand in hand with the Intel HD Graphics 3000. It also comes with a Core i7 CPU. Although it’s graphic benchmarks are not much different to that of the Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display it does run on a sandy bridge processor, which gives it the upper hand on the Pro. The keyboard of the Dell XPS is also one of the features that give it the upper hand on the laptop market. With sleek design and bevel-less, it offers its users a much larger surface to work on and for those individuals who are permanently on their laptops for work reasons this could be a very big attraction point. You can also get a cheaper version of the Dell XPS which offers you much the same configuration but offer only an i5 Core CPU and 2GB of dedicated memory, although it does have a 750 GB Hard drive.

Priced less than the Pro And Dell, the Sony VAIO 13 runs a Core i5 Ivy Bridge CPU and offers 2.5 GHz, 500GB Hard drive, discrete graphics by NVIDIA’s GeForce GT640M. For the same price the 15 inch is virtually the same with some minor differences like a bigger screen obviously and GT640M LE graphics. If you are looking to spend more money, but not more than the Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display, you can then look at the Sony 13 inch VIAO Z which offers much the same as the 14z but offers more storage and higher graphics. It also has the discrete graphics; bit offers extras such as Blu Ray compatibility which will most definitely offer you higher graphics quality for your movies than what any other laptop can.

Wrap up

All in all this year’s MacBook Pro is a solid laptop and offers you a range of great specs, the entry level laptop is not top of its range, but it is a solid competitor. For a little more money you can acquire the MacBook Pro with an i7 Core CPU and also SSD equipped. The only don fall really of the MacBook is that its graphics are not up to par with the rest of its competition in its price range and this is only really due to the lack of discrete graphics in this machine. There is also the option of the 15 inch with NVIDIA GT650M GPU and higher resolution, which can maybe make up for the lack of the discreet graphics in the 13 inch, but then again it will cost you more.

The Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display has however become the choice of many and this due to that Retina Display that it boasts and the price is unfortunately also top of the range. The decision however rests with you. You need to decide how much money you are willing to part with to get the top of the range Apple. Consider your needs and then you can decide between the MacBook Air, Pro or the all new Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display. For basic needs, the Air is the one to go for, for a little more you can own the MacBook Pro. The choice is yours make it now.
